The CHEDRO1 attended the Zonal Public Consultation on the Proposed Guidelines on Microcredentials Development, Approval and Accreditation in Higher Education at CHED Auditorium, Diliman, Quezon City on December 6, 2024.

Microcredentials are units of learning designed to allow recognition of a discrete set of skills that meet the learner, employer, industry, and community needs (NZQA, 2022).

According to the proposed guidelines, the types of microcredentials include for-credit, curriculum-embedded, non-credit, industry-certified, and skills-based.

Before the discussion, Dr. Reynaldo Vea, TWG member for Lifelong Learning, shared “Integrating Microcredentials into the Curriculum:The Mapua Experience” and Prof. Paulina Pannen, Senior Expert at ICE Institute in Indonesia, explained “Indonesia Cyber Education with Microcredentials.”

Also, CHED Commissioner Ethel Agnes Valenzuela imparted updates on lifelong learning and micrcredentials in education.

The members of the TWG, officials from the CHED-Central Office and Regional offices, and representatives of HEIs all over the Philippines attended the event.

Dr. Al Gerald Barde, Education Supervisor II, joined the Region 1 delegates from Mariano Marcos State University, Panpacific University, Pangasinan State University, St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur, St. Louis College, Pangasinan Polytechnic College, and PAMMA.
